Putty into Linux box as root

$vncserver or $service vncserver start
response will be ...:1

open VNC pointing to (IP address):1

You should see something like a desktop with a text session window. You can run GUI applications here.

To start a Gnome desktop

$gnome-session

This will open Gnome desktop, but the windows will look and act funny.

Edit xstartup file to fix the funny acting windows
